ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – Kurdish designers are preparing for Kurdistan Fashion Week, which will be held in Erbil in late August.
“More than 6,000 people have registered to participate in the event as models, designers, and volunteers. Thirty Kurdish designers have started tailoring clothes to display their collections,” Paria Purmuzafari, director of relations for Kurdistan Fashion Week, told Rudaw.
“Most of those who have registered are Kurdish from all four parts of Kurdistan and Europe as well. Some international fashion models will come to Kurdistan to model the clothes,” she added.
Styles will range from casual to formal and will include traditional Kurdish designs.
“We want to show the world the beauty of Kurdistan through this event. It will have a direct impact on Kurdistan’s economic, tourism, and industrial sectors. It is an event that will encourage Kurdish designers to further their ideas,” Purmuzafari said.
The three-day long affair is the first fashion event of this size in Kurdistan and Iraq. It is being supported by the KRG’s tourism office. Rudaw Media Network is media sponsor.
