Turkish warplanes kill civilians in Kurdish region's Qandil

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – Turkish fighter jets launched a fresh attack against Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) on Saturday, killing 10  civilians and injuring 11 others in the Qandil Mountains of the Kurdistan region, a Rudaw reporter at the scene said.

“We were all sleeping when the Turkish fighter jets bombarded our village,” Ismail Abdula Ghader, one of the injured civilians, said by phone this morning. The bombing targeted Zargali village in Rawanduz district, which is on the outskirt of the Qandil Mountains. The PKK was used the area as a stronghold for many years.

Ghader said the fighter jets dropped bombs over the civilians' houses and killed six civilians instantly and injured seven others.

The Hurriyet Daily News reported Friday an intelligence source saying that 30 F-16 warplanes shelled 130 targets in the Qandil Mountains both inside the Turkey and in the Kurdistan region of Iraq.

The source also claimed that Turkish airstrikes have killed 190 PKK guerrillas and injured at least 300 others. The PKK has previously confirmed the death of four members because of the recent aerial attacks in Qandil.

Turkey claims its attacks are “in retaliation” for the killings of two Turkish police officers last week, for which the PKK claimed responsibility.

The latest conflict has possibly brought to a halt a peace agreement reached between Ankara and the PKK two years ago.

Since July 24, Turkish air force jets and artillery have kept up a wave of attacks against the PKK, including five rounds of airstrikes on Saturday that targeted the Qandil Mountains.

While Kurdistan Region and Kurds have been bombarded by Turkish military under pretext to bomb PKK, KRG officials have put blame on PKK. While People's Democratic Party and other Kurdish Parties has been trying to raise awareness about Kurdish cause and recent Tırko attacks on Kurds, KRG' s stance regarding this issue has negative impact on Turkey's Kurds effort to seek help from international organisations. While Turkey's Kurds somehow are able to reach international media and tell their cause, Mr Barzani everyday gives interview to international media and speak out against PKK which has been fighting for the Kurdish cause. If you are poisoned by power, money, fame, Kurdish cause is not an important matter. I wonder whether KRG would condemn the attack that has caused killing of 8 civilians. No, I am pessimistic!!! It is likely that KRG again will accuse PKK of provocation. If KRG has got honour, courage and KRG is bound to Kurdish cause, it is necessary to raise its objection against Tırko government.

I condemn this barbaric act by the Turkish government against our civilians, they're proving to be no better than Assad and terrorist groups they constantly complain about.

Any understanding some here had for the turkish governments reaction against PKK was just wiped out by this terrorist bombing of civilians while they were sleeping! now I have no problem cheering for PKK.

PKK have no rights to turn The territory of KRG into war arena by his nonsense armed campaigns while they have rights of 100% free legal politic struggle with his 80 parliaments and over than 120 municipalities in Turkey.....PKK have hundreds legal parties, unions, assiciations, TV-Radio channels, papers and could use his full rights of legal freedom of express and opinions.......IT IS A JOB OF IDIOTS OR BETRAYERS WHO APPLY ARMED AND BLOODY TERRORIST CAMPAIGNS WHILE THEY HAVE FULL RIGHTS OF LEGAL POLITIC ACTIVITIES.....::

In the name of "fighting terrorism" they're killing civilians and terrorising the whole kurdish population on both sides of the border!. If the leadership had reacted a little more in the begning the turks wouldn't feel that they could take the freedom to do whatever they want.

Ethnic cleansing is exactly what Turkey is doing. Their actions show that they obviously favor certain ethnic groups over others.
