KIRKUK, Iraq– A Peshmerga fighter was killed by an improvised explosive device (IED) in Kirkuk. He was among the ranks of the Oil and Gas Peshmerga brigade in Kirkuk. A number of other Peshmerga fighters were also injured, a source from the brigade told Rudaw.
The source added that the bomb was planted on the road, which is frequently used by the Peshmerga, noting that it was close to the ISIS-held town of Hawija, some 55 kilometres south of Kirkuk.
The incident is unconnected to the deployment of forces by the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) to the North Oil Company in Kirkuk on Thursday.
