Kirkuk resumes oil exports despite ongoing clashes

KIRKUK, Kurdistan Region—Oil exports from Kirkuk started last week through the Turkish port of Ceyhan to international buyers, said Iraq’s Oil Minister.

“We will send 170,000 bpd through Kurdish pipelines and expect our total export to exceed 4 million bpd this year,” Oil Minister Adil Abdul-Mahdi told the Qatari al-Arab al-Jadid daily.

Abdul-Mahdi said that the agreement with the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) last month has facilitated the export of Kirkuk oilfields through the Kurdish pipelines.

The Iraqi oil minister said that the Baghdad-Erbil agreement has come into effect and that both sides are committed to it.

The central government will give to the KRG its 17 percent of the revenues, Abdul-Mahid added.

According to Iraqi ministry officials 2.94 million bpd was exported in December at a price of $57.

Kurdish officials said that clashes between the Peshmerga and Islamic State (ISIS) militants for the recapture of areas south of Kirkuk has not affected the oil industry.

“ISIS still is in control of some remote Kurdish villages in the Hamrin area, but we have blocked every road towards Kirkuk,” said Lieutenant Hiwa Abdullah, adding that the villages had been evacuated in advance and only ISIS militants are now stationed there.

said Lieutenant Hiwa Abdullah, adding that the villages had been evacuated in advance and only ISIS militants are now stationed there. I suggest before SHIITE militias show up to claim the area, to pay those militants a visit with a happy new Year fireworks. Maybe ask the USA if they have some lost, wrongly labelled, unused stockpiles of NAPALM that might magically find its way into the hands of some Jordanian fighter pilots payload. Turn those ISIS types into Michael Jackson wannabe look a likes (with all respect to Michael, may God bless his Soul) and see them ISIS dance on fire like Michael Morrison sings about. FIREEEEEE! yee hah. Pay back could be a bitch if The Gran Ol USA men in black would just look the other way a little! Happy New year Kurdistan & go kick some ass with your new military toys.
Ham rin Villages | 3/1/2015
The remote Kurdish villages should be retaken to claim them before Shiite militias do the same as they did in Jalawla and Saadiyah. If they are empty turn them into army bases to train local Kurds to secure the Hamrin area and prepare for the arrival of other attacks from renegade criminal militias. Praying Lieutenant Hiwa Abdullah is given the resources from Erbil to do so. Good idea to start building a network of defensive positions.

Was Duwaizat taken by Kurdish fighters? Are the Kurdish military AUTHORITIES developing strategies as to how to keep villages under Kurdish control once liberated. Are Kurdish fighters and fighting volunteers just dying to liberate these villages to just give them back under Baghdad Iraqi control or is Erbil being more strategic and long term intelligent this time around. remember in 2003 many Kurds died liberating Mosul together with the Americans. Many of those Kurdish translators who covered US soldiers asses have now been murdered because of Baghdads demographic war BS. Would be nice if the crew in West Virginia could cut Kurds some slack & assist with some territorial gains for the purpose of preventative buffer zones. A reliable more civilized ally like the Kurds & a strong allied prosperous Kurdistan for Europe, China, Russia, USA is hard to find anywhere else in the middle east. The last 10 years of prosperous safe Kurdish areas have been more than enough proof of that for global investors. ;)
