US Senator: “We need to arm the Kurds”

WASHINGTON (AP) — Sen. Ted Cruz, a potential presidential candidate is 2016, isn't ruling out sending American ground troops to fight Islamic State militants.

The Texas Republican tells ABC's "This Week" that "if need be, we should go that step. But it should be driven by the mission."

Cruz says Iraqi Kurds have a good fighting force but need to receive arms more effectively from the United States, rather than through the central government in Baghdad.

Cruz, who was attending an international security conference in Munich, wants to use Kurdish fighters — known as the peshmerga — as the ground forces in combination with U.S.-led airstrikes. He says those fighters are effective and ready.

"We need to arm the Kurds now because they are our boots on the ground," he told CNN's "State of the Union."

To all the Americans reading this. Please contact your representatives and tell them to support the immediate direct arming of the Kurds. We have wasted too much money on Baghdad, and Turkey is becoming more and more under the control of mini ISIS "Muslim Brotherhood". We need to support them so they can enjoy their own sovereign nation, it is ridiculous for a group of 30 million people not to have their own nation. As far as I am concerned the Kurds are the most balanced folks over there.

Kurds must make it crystal clear that the only way we enter Mosul to kick Daesh out is to get all the weapons a modern army needs. Otherwise let Iraqi army and Iranians capture Mosul with help from US airstrikes.

Action speaks louder than words. Don't say you'll arm people, DO IT.

Ted Cruz is a Tea party Republican here in the U.S. and you might read some negative comments but from what I've seen and read here in the states both parties support you Kurds even up to including Arming. Now U.S. combat boots on the ground is a touchy subject but both Parties pretty much agree that we need to Arm you Kurds alot more. The only real roadblock we have right now is our President Obama and thats really fustrating as a American because for once both Democrats and Republicans both agree on something but our current leader, well I just dont understand his thinking sometimes.

I disagree. A no fly zone is exactly that, a zone that prohibits certain aircraft from flying in that zone. In Iraq, its purpose was to prevent Iraqi...
