Talabani’s son Bafel and several other family members were in Baghdad to attend the service. Iraqi President Fuad Masum and Vice President Nouri al-Maliki both were present. Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi did not attend.
Five years after suffering a stroke, Talabani, affectionately known as Mam or Uncle Jalal, passed away at the age of 83 in a hospital in Berlin, Germany. He was laid to rest on Dabashan hill near his home in Sulaimani on Friday.
