By Rudaw 9/10/2017
A memorial service for Jalal Talabani, the iconic Kurdish leader who was president of Iraq and secretary general of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), was organized by the Iraqi presidency at Rashid Hotel in Baghdad.

Talabani’s son Bafel and several other family members were in Baghdad to attend the service. Iraqi President Fuad Masum and Vice President Nouri al-Maliki both were present. Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi did not attend.

Five years after suffering a stroke, Talabani, affectionately known as Mam or Uncle Jalal, passed away at the age of 83 in a hospital in Berlin, Germany. He was laid to rest on Dabashan hill near his home in Sulaimani on Friday.
