It has been thirty years since the end of the Iran-Iraq war, but the remnants and effects of that conflict can still be seen on the mountains and countryside of the Kurdistan Region.

Prior to the start of the war, Wlakhlu village in the Gapilon district of Sulaimani had 100 families. Now only 20 remain.
It is one of the most affected villages with the most casualties due to the landmines and explosives left here during the war.
15 people in this village have been killed by landmines and 20 others have lost their limbs.
