Campaigning for Kurdistan Region election starts September 5

By Rudaw 12/8/2018

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region — The Kurdistan Region’s election commission set the period for official campaigning for the parliamentary election from September 5 to 28.

The election body made the announcement on Sunday.

The Kurdistan Regional Government last held elections in 2013. People in the Region are scheduled to go to the polls on September 30.

The Kurdish parliament has 111 seats – five of them allocated to Turkmen, five for Chaldeans and Assyrians, and one for Armenians.

Voting will begin at 8am and finish at 6pm.

The electoral commission says preliminary results will be announced within 72 hours of polls closing.

Cameras and cellphones are banned in polling stations.

Each voter must express his or her personal national and patriotic will and position in support of those political forces that are fully and sincerely committed to the results of 25.09.2017 Referendum on territorial reintegration and independence of Southern Kurdistan in order to let Kurdistan Region executive and legislative authorities implement the sovereign mandate of the self-determined People without hesitation by all and any required, reasonable, adequate and necessary means. It is necessary to dispel once and for all the myth intentionally and purposefully spread by enemies, provocateurs and traitors about the alleged lack of unity of the Kurdish people and all communities of Kurdistan. Patriotism is manifested unselfish commitment to the sovereign will of the People and devotion to the Homeland - Kurdistan. I wish the Kurdistan people success, luck, determination, victory, freedom, independence, peace, security and development.
