MOUNT HALGURD, Kurdistan Region – A group of volunteers is tackling the Kurdistan Region’s litter problem, cleaning trash from a mountain park.
The group of 70 mountaineers is camping on Mount Halgurd, rising early to spend their day collecting rubbish left behind by previous visitors.
“An interesting hike needs a clean environment, but unfortunately this nature is unclean and it harms the soul. Shame on those who did that. When you enjoy your trip don’t put the garbage into the water. Clean it up,” said one volunteer.
Halgurd is the highest peak in the Kurdistan Region. It’s 3,607 meters above sea level.
Hundreds of foreign and local mountaineer groups visit these mountains every year.
