TUZ KHURMATU – The Kurdish Peshmerga said on Sunday that a security belt they have created on the southern edges of Tuz Khurmatu has prevented the militants of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) from bringing their fight to the Kurdish areas.

A Peshmerga officer in the area also told Rudaw that the ISIS have contacted them by courier, saying, “If you don't attack us, we would not attack you.”

Currently, the last Peshmerga checkpoint is on the lower Zab River that stretches to the town of Dubis near the city of Kirkuk in the north.

According to information provided by the Peshmerga forces, the ISIS checkpoint is only half a kilometer away from the Kurdish forces and that via taxi drivers on the road, the militants have asked for reassurance that they will not be attacked from the north.

Rudaw correspondent in Kirkuk, Hunar Ahmed says that many families have fled the southern areas of the province to Kirkuk, fearing retaliation by the Iraqi army.

Some families said that their areas are already under shelling from the Iraqi forces.

As the ISIS advanced through Iraq’s Sunni areas from Mosul last week, government troops deserted their posts, leading to the fall of the city of Hawija west of Kirkuk.

Kurdish Peshmerga forces moved in to secure the provincial capital and protect the rural population left vulnerable to ISIS attacks.

According to local officials, many wounded civilians from Hawija and other ISIS-controlled areas have bee transported to Kirkuk hospitals.

Some victims told Rudaw that hospitals in Hawija are in “terrible condition” and that there is the fear of Iraqi army bombardment.

Our correspondent says that the Peshmerga and the Islamic militants engage in occasional clashes, but that the fighting remains sporadic and at a distance due to the heavy Peshmerga presence and security belt they have formed.

Your correspondent is kani halabjaiya lol. It's in the previous article. Why not say the name. And as stated in this article the countrymen she was referring to are not Kurds fighting one another. They are translators. !

ISIS knows Peshmerga is not cowards like the Iraqi Army. In Every Kurd's DNA, there is a warrior inside, men and women. because of our ancient past. ''Holakoy Bazen'' Alexander the great destroyed the persian empire, more of his men died fighting the Kurds han the persians. Ghengis khan said, if it was not for the Kurds I would had conquered Persia with less man dead. Tamerlane or known as ''Timur'' in Kurdish, he was conqueror of the world. Timur said. Kurds are the fiercest warriors I ever have faced. If you read the ancient greek wars, you understand the Kurds had effect in every war, even the Romans could not qonquer after Turkey, because the Kurds was in their way. Don't forget if it was nor for Salahaddin or as the call him in the west ''Saladin. There would not be a Billion muslim and 20 muslim countries. If Salahaddin was alive to see this day, he would be ashamed of every muslim countries for what they did to his Kurdish people. When he conquered Jerusalem, he did not kill a single christian or jew.

See, Peshmerga outnumber them, so how can they take down Baghdad which has even more numbers. I don't understand the logic. And they may decide to attack later

ISIS focus is on Baghdad and Karbala right now and they should keep looking southward. They are clearly looking to protect their supply lines from Mosul to Baghdad. It will be helpful if ISIS leadership removes the pressure on Kurds in Syria and do not attack Kurds anywhere in the region.

Better to give brief description to Salih Rasid who is ITC president and with full of confidence having back from Turkey. Turkmens should understand Kerkuk is always Kurdish city and we do not have any interest share our land with others. The ones who immigrated to Mesopotamia from Asia has right to use their cultural rights without legal constitution. Ones Kurds in Turkey has their own rights own parlemant and own army in Bakurk then Turkmen can ask to Kurds for their rights. Salih Rasid should know around Ankara; Polatli, Haymana, Bala all Kurd and in Konya and Ankara around 1 million Kurds are living. Polatli is only 40 min from Ankara... Salih Rasid should not feel that much confortable for Turks support from Ankara... Although, we (kurds and turks) can get together when turks truly accept Kurds as main nation of Turkey as Turks then we have no problem with Turkmens spoilt president Salih RaSID.
