3,000 year old tombs unearthed at Erbil construction site

By Rudaw 20/3/2017
-
ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – A possibly 3,000 year old archaeological site has been discovered during construction of a commercial building in downtown Erbil.

Crews digging a basement for a commercial building opposite Sheikhi Choli Mosque unearthed tombs that may date back to the Assyrian Empire, 2500 BC – 605 BC.

Archaeological teams are examining the site.

You translated "Mitanni" wrong. Mitanni are not the same as Medes. Names are similar, but different ancient proto-Kurdish nations.

The entire north Iraq belongs to the Assyrian people, yet they live in their own ancestral land as a second class citizens, and deprived from any political power. Is this justice? Now tell us, what kind of inhumane oppression is this when the foreigners govern the land while its own original people live in a make shift tents as refugees? Is this justices. Don't you think one day the world will turn against the oppressors and knock them out of existences like we see across Middle East.

Statement made in 2:03 has no historical basis and it's a total nonsense. Hopefully the person is not a historian. Medes entered Iran ~ 1200 BC and did not have their first state up until ~600 BC and it was located near Ekbatan and NOT Arba-ilu (which belongs to Assyrian Empire since antiquity all the way till 600 BC when captured by Medes lasting ~ 60 years falling under the control of Pars and later Iranian dynasties ending with Ottoman Empire and Iraq.) You are free to call Medes Kurd but you are not free to call Arba-ilu Kurdistan for obvious reason mentioned above.

To my brothers Assyrians, I know this might be unreal...but kurds are trying hard to build a civil society..... We are screwed by the book that Arabs send us....but just give us time and we will build the best civil society in the Middle East. Yes, in the Middle East! Not by power and fear but by love, tolerance and forgiveness, peace, knowledge.... all which Mohammed followers lack. As a teacher in Kurdistan, I am working in my school to change Quran classes to environmental care and plant trees in Kurdistan because Trees are life.
