GARMIYAN, Kurdistan Region – ISIS militants on Wednesday evening attacked a village in northern Diyala province. Security officials reported that there have been casualties.

“An ISIS group attacked the population of the village of Sleman Wahab situated in Sheikh Baba area belonging to the town of Jalawla. Fighting is ongoing between villagers and ISIS militants,” Major Smko Ali, director of Asayesh (security) in the town of Koks, told Rudaw.

“According to information, three people from the Arab village were killed, and one is wounded,” he added.

The village of Sleman Wahab is home to Sunni Arabs. It is located southeast of Jalawla.

ISIS militants have carried out a number of deadly attacks in this area in recent months. Peshmerga officials have said they are ready to return to these areas and work jointly with the Iraqi security forces to provide security.
