Religious committee visits historic mountain in Kurdistan for Ramadan
By Sartip Othman
The High Moon Monitoring Committee from the Ministry of Religious Affairs Directorate in Sulaimani this evening went to the top of Gilazard Mount in the area of Qaradagh in the Baranan mountain range to see a glimpse of the moon to be able to determine the first day of the feast of Ramadan.
It was decided that there was not yet a new moon, so Eid al-Fitr will begin on Sunday, June 25.
The reason for choosing this mountain is because the Kurdish famous scientist Sheikh Hassan Gilazardi between 1665 to 1765 declared climatic changes and the determination of seasons and religious feasts from here.
