ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – A video released by ISIS threatens to carry out new attacks in Tehran and it calls on young Iranians to rise up and fight alongside them.
"The same way we are cutting the necks of your dogs in Iraq and Syria we will cut your necks in the center of Tehran," says a man in the video, speaking accented Farsi, according to Reuters.
The man in the video wearing a black ski mask and holding an AK-47 is sitting alongside two others. The video displays ISIS’ news agency logo and shows footage of two attacks carried out in Tehran in June.
Iran’s Intelligence Ministry released a statement on Tuesday announcing the arrests of 27 militants linked to ISIS.
“The suspects, arrested before the swear-in ceremony of Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on Saturday were intending to carry out terrorist acts in the Iranian central and religious cities," the announcement included per ISNA news agency.
An attack on the parliament in Tehran killed 18 people. A second attack was launched against the tomb of Ayatollah Khomeini in early June.
Iran retaliated by firing several missiles at ISIS bases in Syria and announced the arrests of dozens who were allegedly linked to the attacks.
“The message of this revolutionary and vengeful move is very clear,” the statement read, “the Islamic Revolutionary Guards warn the Takfiri terrorists, their regional and transregional guardians.”
It added that if acts like the Tehran attacks were repeated, it will retaliate against the perpetrators and those helping them.
In another portion of the video by ISIS, this time spoken in Arabic, the militants in black ski masks threatened additional attacks against Shiite Muslims in Iraq.
