Low-quality construction a major factor in Iran earthquake deaths
The death toll from Sunday's earthquake in Iran has risen to 530 with some 7,460 injured. Those numbers are expected to rise as local sources say people remain trapped in the rubble of demolished houses and buildings.
According to the mayor of Sarpol-e Zahab, the hardest hit, 300 people were killed in the quake.
The low-quality construction of low income housing has been blamed as a significant contributing factor to the large numbers of people killed. President Hassan Rouhani said his government will launch an investigation.
