“The Zagros Eagles carried out a military operation against Iran’s terrorist IRGC outside the Kurdish city of Baneh, killing and injuring several members of the IRGC,” the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan (PDKI) tweeted.
Iran has not immediately confirmed the incident.
Local human rights monitor Hengaw reported that a handful of Zagros Eagles fighters carried out the operation.
Baneh is located in Kurdistan province, about 500 kilometres west of Tehran and 20 kilometres from the border with the Kurdistan Region.
The Zagros Eagles are an armed force the PDKI describes as a “clandestine military organization that fights the Iranian regime in Kurdistan.”
The PDKI is one of the many Kurdish Iranian groups that is based in the Kurdistan Region and is fighting for greater political and cultural rights for Kurds in Iran. Their headquarters were targeted by Iranian missiles in September.
The PDKI announced the operation while Iraqi President Barham Salih is in the Iranian capital.
