ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - Two police officers were killed when a suicide car bomb rammed a security checkpoint southwest of Kirkuk Thursday morning, police said.
"Two federal policemen were killed and one wounded by a suicide car bomb that targeted a checkpoint in the town of Abbasi," a Federal Police official in Kirkuk told Rudaw.
Security forces took stricy measures around the area following the blast, the police said, and began an investigation into the bombing.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
On Wednesday, another car bomb targetted an Iraqi army checkpoint in Qaim, in western Anbar province, killing 11 and injuring 16.
Local officials believed ISIS sleep cells were behind the attack.
The town of Abbasi was under ISIS control from 2014 until late 2017.
