SDF advance 12km towards Raqqa

AYN ISSA, Syria – Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have advanced 12 kilometres towards Raqqa after two days of its military offensive to liberate ISIS’ de facto capital, according to a statement on the campaign’s Facebook page.

The United States, France and Britain said they would provide air support for the offensive, which was announced at a news conference in Ayn Issa, 50 kilometres north of Raqqa, on Sunday.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported on Monday that coalition airstrikes “led to massive casualties” for ISIS.

And “no less than 6 SDF were killed while others were wounded by suicide attacks, clashes, and mutual bombardment,” the Observatory stated.

Pentagon Press Secretary Peter Cook confirmed in a press briefing on Monday that the SDF “have made progress since they began their movement towards Raqqa” the US Department of Defense reported.

The Raqqa offensive, dubbed Wrath of Euphrates, which aims initially at isolating and encircling the city, increases the pressure on ISIS, making it harder for its fighters to move reinforcements between Syria and Iraq.

The city, which has been under IS control since early 2014, is home to some of the group's top leaders and is seen as the key to defeating the group militarily.

Excellent work YPJ, YPG and SDF. If you see the enormous difference in weapons between the Peshmerga in their fight on Mosul and your weapons than you are more heroic because you have far less modern weapons. Therefor it is understandable that you have far more casualties than necessary if you had the same weapons. The reason why you don't get these needed weapons is clear: the Turkish islamic state wants to see a lot of casualties...

@Help the Ezidis: the biggest problem in the area is Turkey, that's why during Iraq war, unnecessarily Americans cost so many brave soldiers because Turkey did not give passage to American soldiers, not to mention the billions of Dollars that Turkey received from American tax payers money.

The peshmerga has also much worse, less in quantity and less modern weaposn then the iraqi government. Kurds on both sides have to resort to recycling weapons they find on the battlefield from isis that the iraqi army left when they ran in their underwear. Again though, why r kurd in rojava giving their lifes for liberating raqqa. When this is done, america gonna sell out the kurds (again) to turks and same arabs from raqqa and surrounding will join all forces fighting kurds and federalism. So WHYYYYY? I hope they know more then i do.

Pity they couldn't have done it for real when ISIS invaded instead of running away and leaving all their equipment behind for DAESH to use.
