ERBIL, Kurdistan Region—Turkish forces at Iraq’s Bashiq camp killed 17 Islamic State (ISIS) militants on Friday when the group attacked the camp with rocket fire and assault rifles, Turkish media reported.
Official sources denied media reports that Turkish soldiers were either wounded or killed in the attack.
The ISIS militants had attempted to sneak into the camp when the clashes ensued.
This is ISIS's third attack on the base.
The first attack took place on December 16 when the group fired Katyusha rockets at the camp and a second attack on December 27 (which ISIS filmed using a drone) left five Turkish soldiers injured and one Iraqi citizen dead.
Turkey has been training an armed anti-ISIS Sunni group in the camp since last year but its additional deployment of forces to protect the installation in early December led to an ongoing diplomatic incident with Baghdad.
