UN confirms civilians displaced from Afrin are prevented from going home

By Majeed Gly 5/5/2018
-
UNITED NATIONS, New York – The United Nations has confirmed reports that civilians displaced from Afrin during Turkey’s military operation against the Kurdish canton have been prevented from returning home.

“As a result of hostilities and military operations in Syria’s Afrin… some 126,000 men, women and children remain displaced,” UN Deputy Spokesperson Farhan Haq said this week. “In addition, an estimated 150,000 people remain in Afrin District, where access to people in need continues to be extremely limited.”

“Several parties to the conflict continue to hinder displaced people’s movement, preventing them from seeking safety in their areas of choice or from returning to their areas of origin,” he added.

He said the UN calls on all parties to the Syrian conflict to ensure freedom of movement for civilians and access to humanitarian aid.

Kurds have accused Turkey of instituting demographic change in Afrin – relocating rebel forces and their families from Eastern Ghouta to Afrin while denying the native Kurdish population the right to return home.

International players in Syria are not pushing Turkey on the issue. Countries like Russia and the US are waiting to see how major Middle Eastern events will play out, like Iraq’s elections and Donald Trump’s decision on the Iran nuclear deal – factors that may impact the stability in Syria specifically and the region generally.

With all respect once in a while i need to say this: why don't the United nations not go and fuck themselves? Every child knows about turkeys crimes. But what is the un waiting for why dont they send their un soldiers? I mean what is the un for if not for things like this? Its behaviour is also the policy of the un member states. The hole world is in war with the kurds. But the kurds will prevail like always as long as they dont sell each other or fight each other and i hope they will remember this and not fall into their stupid commpassion and instead pay back with interests😡

Worse is coming the turks will have their silly already bought election and the outcome is clear they will fire up their war against the kurds and certainly kill many if not millions and the un will act like a coward infront of turkey but actually they want it to happen. The kurds made so many mistakes. Did not listened to their wise people instead to morons. If the un wants to prevent a full scale massacre they should by now send their troops. Why are the americans still listing the pkk and actually many kurdish organisations as a terrorist organization????? And why not the turkish organisations? Which are openly promoting terrorism. What do u call this alliance with intention of backstabbing? Turkey intimidate the kurds in krg and hopes that they will finish each other up so turkey can hide in the dark because it cant afford to reveal its face more openly. If the kurds do turkeys job than they are lost. But if they ally without any conditions they are undefeatable!!!!! Us must lift that silly pkk ban and many more and ask its allies to do the same. If not grab your stuff and run.

The UN says "several parties"... there are only really 3 parties...Turkey/FSA, Assad Forces/Russia/Shia Militia & YPG... Now as bad it may seems, it is understable why Turkey does not let some locals return.. fear of attacks...bearing in mind more or less all young people in Afrin were forcibly taken under arms and had to undergo political education (in the old days that was called brainwashing)...also did the YPG in any areas they conquered from ISIS let the locals return, closest example Tel Rifaat? If they had...there wouldn't be so many displaced people in Azaz... Why is Assad preventing people...well, I assume also kind of payback time to the Kurds or demonstration of power...BUT WHY IS THE YPG PREVENTING KURDS TO RETURN HOME???? Most-likely the same thing...as they prevented by force locals for days leaving the city of Afrin...for political reasons...to get international attention...yes sacrifice your own people, expose in particular children and elderly to additional danger...but without shame ...claim to protect them...this is the real face of PKK/YPG leadership...
