Saudi paper 'apologizes strongly' to President Barzani for 'false' news on wealth

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - The Saudi's Al Watan online newspaper apologized to President Masoud Barzani, head of the KDP, on Sunday for publishing a "false" news about his net worth.

Al Watan wrote in a statement that it was "apologizing strongly to Mr. Masoud Barzani, the president of the Kurdistan Democratic Party for the mistake we made.”

The KDP head and former president of the Kurdistan Region has not released a statement on the matter.

The newspaper added the "mistake was unintended" and that it would soon "launch an investigation into the source which embroiled us in this mistake."

Saudi Arabia’s Al Watan reported on Saturday that Barzani's net worth amounted to $48 billion, coming second after Nouri al-Maliki's $50 billion in currency, real estate, and investments in the Middle East.

Barzani’s list won 25 seats in Iraq’s parliamentary election. Maliki, the former prime minister of Iraq, won 26 seats heading the State of Law Coalition.

Leading lists have been unable to form a new government for Iraq since the May 12th vote.
