ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - Iran's judiciary on Tuesday announced the execution of two more prisoners arrested for their involvement in anti-government protests in January.
Mizan, a news outlet affiliated with the judiciary, reported that authorities executed Javad Zamani and Abolfazl Saeedi after they were charged with "enmity against God (moharebeh) and corruption on earth (efsad fel-arz)."
The death sentences were carried out in the early hours of Tuesday, according to Mizan.
The executions come days before Iran’s top negotiator, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, leads an Iranian delegation to Switzerland to sign a memorandum of understanding with the US — a document that has already been signed electronically by both countries.
Mizan described the January protests as a coup orchestrated by the US and Israel.
Several individuals who took part in the January protests have been executed in recent weeks following the attack by the United States and Israel on February 28. The conflict lasted six weeks and targeted more than 15,000 locations across Iran.
Security and intelligence forces detained more than 20,000 people during the protests and the six-week war, accusing them of collaborating with the enemy — a charge that carries the death penalty.
Human rights organizations have warned about the high number of executions carried out by the government in Tehran, describing them as a tool of repression used to silence dissent.
The US-based Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA) reported that Iran carried out 2,063 executions in 2025 — the highest number recorded in around three and a half decades.
