ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - A base of the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan (KDPI) near Erbil came under an Iranian drone attack, the dissident group said in a statement late Tuesday.
“On Tuesday night, June 9, 2026, the Islamic Republic once again launched a drone attack targeting [our] bases,” the statement read, detailing that four drones were used in the assault.
KDPI made no reference to casualties or material damage resulting from the assault.
Summing up the total aerial strikes on their bases, the KDPI said they have been attacked with “more than 137 missiles and drones” since the outbreak of the Iran war in late February.
Meanwhile, two military commanders from the Komala Toilers of Kurdistan - another Kurdish dissident group that has also endured the strikes - said Tuesday’s attacks were carried out with missiles.
“Three missiles hit an area 20 meters from our base,” one of the commanders said, adding that he was “lightly injured” in the attack.
He also explained that their base is next to KDPI’s base in the area.
Komala has been hit with nearly 90 missiles and drones since the beginning of the six week war.
The US and Israel launched a large-scale aerial campaign against Iran in late February, striking thousands of targets across the country during six weeks of hostilities.
In response, Tehran carried out thousands of drone and missile strikes across the Middle East, targeting alleged US assets - particularly in Gulf Arab states - while also launching retaliatory attacks against Israel.
The Iranian response also involved factions aligned with the Iran-led ‘Axis of Resistance,’ including armed groups in Iraq that claimed numerous attacks on alleged US targets in Iraq and Kurdistan.
The warring sides agreed to a Pakistan-mediated ceasefire on April 8, halting hostilities to create space for diplomatic negotiations. While the first round of talks concluded without a final agreement on April 11, a second round has yet to take place.
Despite the truce, Tehran and its allied factions have continued their attacks on Kurdish dissident groups in the Kurdistan Region.
Based on Rudaw’s tracking, the Kurdistan Region has been hit with nearly 866 drones and missiles between February 28 and Tuesday. The strikes have resulted in 20 deaths and 135 injuries.
