Renowned Kurdish rapper Xatar buried in Bonn

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - Kurdish rapper Giwar Hajabi, known as Xatar, was buried in Bonn, Germany on Thursday. His sudden death on May 9 made headlines and shocked many. 

Dozens of family members, fans and friends attended the funeral. 

"He is the singer of Kurds. He said he had contact with Germans and used this to make many [artists] millionaires. He wanted to do this for Kurdistan singers too. It hurt him to see Kurdish singers like Diyar struggle financially. He wanted to use his skills to help them, this was part of his project," Ghazal Paksarasht, Xatar’s mother, lamented. 

People of diverse ethnicities and nationalities attended the funeral, demonstrating their love and loyalty for this Kurdish-German artist.

Xatar was born on December 24, 1981, in Sanandaj, Iran, to Kurdish parents who later sought asylum in Germany. 

He developed an interest in music early in life, taking piano lessons as a child. Despite the challenges of growing up as an asylum seeker, he pursued his passion for music and found success as a rapper and producer.
