UAE singer features Kurdistan’s nature in new album to bring smile to Iraqis

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region—Hussein Jassmi, a singer from the United Arab Emirates has put scenes from Kurdistan’s nature and Kurdish dance in his latest album in order to bring some smiles to the Iraqi people in this time of war.

One of the clips in his new album named We are all Iraq features scenes from Kurdistan’s nature, the ancient citadel in Erbil and Kurdish dance of halparke. 

The 37-year-old singer said in a social media post that he dedicated one song in his new album to Iraq in order to bring some joy to their lives.

Despite all the wars the people have been through they still manage to keep a positive attitude towards life, said Jassmi in his post.

Jassmi’s professional singing career took off after winning the reality TV show Layali Dubai in 1997 and 1998.

Showing up on stage for the contest as an overweight contender made him an immediate celebrity.

TV viewers across the Arab world mainly in the Gulf region found him modest and someone they could relate to.

His video clips have gained more than 240 million views.

The video clip dedicated to Iraq has been directed by Ala Ansari and was filmed in different places of Kurdistan and Iraq.

Jassmi has previously sung similar songs for both Egypt and Yemen who have been going through conflict since the Arab Spring.

His famous song “Boshret Kheir” about Egypt encouraged people in that country to vote in the 2014 presidential election.

In We are all Iraq, Jassmi has tried to showcase the ancient sites of Iraq as well as people’s daily lives to show that the country is still alive.

Jassmi has visited the Kurdistan Region in the past two inaugurate a camp for refugees fleeing the violence in Iraq and Syria.
