Kurdish ministerial nominee withdraws from new Iraqi cabinet
ERBIL, Kurdistan Region—The Kurdish nominee for the post of the Iraqi oil minister has rejected his candidacy and announced he will not take part in Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi’s new technocratic government.
Professor Nzar Doski who was selected by Abadi for the crucial oil ministry post, told Rudaw he will withdraw his candidacy “due to the current political situation in the country.”
“There is no broad political agreement on the formation of the new Iraqi cabinet which is of course needed for any government to succeed,” the Kurdish professor said as the reason why he had turned down his nomination.
Prime Minister Abadi submitted the list of his new cabinet members Thursday to the parliament which is planned to vote on the nominations within 10 days.
Kurdish leaders have slammed the new cabinet and said they will boycott the government if the Kurdish share remains at the current number with two ministers.
