Kurdish group confirms civilians killed in Turkey's Qandil airstrikes
QANDIL, Kurdistan Region – A parliamentary human rights committee from the Kurdistan region on Saturday visited the recent bombed Zargali village on the outskirts of Qandil Mountain and confirmed the deaths of civilians from the latest wave of Turksih airstrikes meant to target fighters with the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK).
The visiting group included Soran Omer, chairman of the committee, and committee members Umed Hama Ali and Bestun Faiq.
“We went there in order to assess the damages of the Turkish strikes in Zaragali village on the outskirt of Qandil Mountains,” said Faiq. “In addition to property damages, nine people were killed and 10 injured. We also found out that a number of the martyrs were civilians.”
The team was told to leave the area due to fear of new airstrikes, said Faiq.
“We left the village after the warning,” added Faiq. The team will write a report about their findings upon their return to Erbil.
A Rudaw reporter at the scene said that two of people killed in the bombing were members of the PKK.
