Gali Ali Beg tourist resort braces for Eid festivities

This is the spectacular Gali Ali Beg waterfall and resort, 50 kilometers northeast of Erbil.

As Eid al-Fitr - the celebration marking the end of Ramadan - fast approaches, the resort's restaurants are being spruced up to prepare them for the influx of visitors due to visit from across Iraq.

Tourist cabanas have sprung up road and riverside to accommodate for the projected 20,000 visitors over the Eid holiday.

Tourists often flock to the natural beauty and relatively cool climate of the Kurdistan Region on national and religious holidays.

But the Kurdish Regional Government (KRG) has made a particular effort to boost tourism in the region this summer, by speeding up checkpoint procedures for tourists and hosting a series of tourism fairs to draw visitors in to the Kurdistan Region earlier this year.
