Missile attack kills Rojhelat Peshmerga in Erbil
ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - An Iranian missile strike on a base belonging to the Kurdistan Freedom Party (PAK), an Iranian Kurdish opposition group, near the Degala area of Erbil province killed one of the party’s Peshmerga fighters, a party official told Rudaw.
Adib Khalidian, a member of PAK’s leadership and head of relations, identified the fallen fighter as Jalal Rashidi, who was from Saqqez.
Khalidian said the base was struck by two missiles, killing Rashidi and wounding three other Peshmerga fighters.
The attack is part of a series of strikes by Iran on Iranian Kurdish opposition groups based in the Kurdistan Region as Tehran’s war with the United States and Israel escalates.
It also comes amid reports that the US is stepping up efforts to use Iranian Kurdish armed groups as potential ground forces inside Iran. The development follows a phone call between US President Donald Trump and several Kurdish leaders, including the head of one of these parties.
