ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – Peshmerga forces foiled Islamic State (ISIS) suicide bombers who tried to infiltrate Kurdish lines of defense on the Bashik front on Tuesday, killing and wounding several of the militants, a Peshmerga official told Rudaw.
"Earlier this evening, ISIS militants with explosive belts plotted to target the Peshmerga by taking advantage of the foggy weather in the village of Sheikh Ali on the Bashik front, but they were repelled," said Brig, Anwar Kolit.
"The Peshmerga and warplanes from the US-led coalition foiled the plot, shelling the militants, killing a number of them and wounding others," he added.
We ”are bombing ISIS on a daily basis, and when the weather is bad or foggy they launch assaults,” he said, adding that is why the Peshmerga are always "on alert to repulse any attack they might launch on the front."
ISIS militants have recently been suffering a series of setbacks and losses on the battlefield against the Peshmerga and Iraqi army.
On Monday, the Iraqi army announced that a day after ISIS militants captured a number of villages and towns in Anbar province, the military managed to recapture four districts in eastern Ramadi.
