‘Nobody cares,’ say displaced Iraqis who still can’t go home

“We are from Mosul. We are poor,” said Um Abdullah who is living in a camp for internally displaced persons (IDPs).

The Iraqi government has promised compensation so that those whose houses and businesses were damaged in the war can return home and rebuild, but people in this camp say they have not received anything.

According to the UN’s migration agency IOM, more than 3.2 million displaced Iraqis have returned home as of the end of 2017. But 2.6 million are still unable to go home.
