ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – The Sarsang oil field in Duhok province, operated by the US-based HKN Energy, was targeted by two drones late Thursday, a security official from the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) said.

Karwan Baban, security advisor for oil companies at the Kurdistan Region’s Ministry of Natural Resources, told Rudaw that the attack occurred at 9:23 pm and 9:30 pm, when two drones struck the Sarsang field.

“There were no casualties in the attack,” Baban said, noting that the field sustained material damage.

He added that the operating company has suspended production at the field following the incident.

The Sarsang oil field is located in Duhok province and is one of the energy sites operated by HKN Energy in the Kurdistan Region.

The attack comes amid heightened regional tensions and a series of drone and missile incidents targeting locations across the Kurdistan Region in recent days.
