Turkish jets bomb two populated villages in Kurdistan Region
ERBIL, Kurdistan Region — Turkish warplanes resumed bombing populated villages on Thursday in northern Erbil province targeting PKK positions, said a local official, adding civilians are abandoning their homes.
Ihsan Chalabi, the mayor of Sidakan town, told Rudaw that Turkish fighter jets have begun bombing villages around Khalifan and Lelkan in Sidakan district, forcing the residents of two villages to leave.
Chalabi added that the two villages are populated.
He did not have any immediate knowledge of any human losses or material damages.
Turkey regularly bombs border areas in the Kurdistan Region, where the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) has its headquarters in Qandil.
Ankara accelerated its operations in March.
