ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - A wave of drone and missile attacks struck multiple areas across the Kurdistan Region overnight into early Monday, targeting headquarters and camps of Iranian Kurdish opposition parties. No casualties were reported.

Explosions were heard across Erbil and Sulaimani provinces as drones and missiles targeted sites linked to Iranian Kurdish opposition groups based in the Region.

The first strike occurred around 8:00 pm, when a drone and a missile hit a refugee camp housing families of Peshmerga fighters from the Kurdistan Democratic Party of Iran (KDPI) in Erbil’s Koya district, the party said in a post on X.

“Iran’s terrorist IRGC conducted yet another missile and drone attack against PDKI [KDPI]-affiliated civilian residential infrastructure near Koya,” the KDPI said, adding that the party “has been attacked close to a 100 times during the past month.”

The attacks come as Tehran and Iran-backed armed groups in Iraq continue to target Iranian Kurdish opposition groups, following the launch of a joint US-Israeli military campaign against Iran.

They also come hours after several Iranian Kurdish opposition groups on Sunday denied reports that the US had armed them during Iran’s nationwide anti-government protests.

Fox News correspondent Trey Yingst said that, following the country's deadly anti-government protests in January, “President Trump told me the United States sent guns to the Iranian protestors. He told me we sent them a lot of guns. We sent them to the Kurds. And the president says he thinks the Kurds kept them. He went on to say we sent guns to the protestors, a lot of them.”

Despite the denials, seven drones were intercepted over Erbil and surrounding areas late Sunday.

The attacks continued past midnight. At 12:20 am, a loud explosion was heard over Sulaimani. An official from the Komala of the Toilers of Kurdistan told Rudaw, “The relations office of the Komala Party was hit by an airstrike, but there were no casualties because the headquarters had been evacuated.”

Camps in Koya were targeted again. An source told Rudaw, “One of the drones was destroyed, and the other one crashed.” Further strikes around 12:40 am hit the same camps, causing only material damage.

Shortly before 1:00 am, a second drone attack struck Komala headquarters in Sulaimani, damaging nearby homes and civilian vehicles. In Erbil's Soran administration, residents reported “the sound of low-flying warplanes” along with additional explosions.

The strikes come amid escalating regional tensions. According to Rudaw tracking, nearly 670 drones and missiles have targeted the Kurdistan Region since February 28, following the US-Israel military campaign against Iran.

Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Sunday condemned the ongoing drone and missile attacks on Erbil.

“I strongly condemn the heinous attacks by terrorist militias targeting the U.S. Consulate General and civilian areas in Erbil. These deliberate acts of aggression pose a grave threat to the security and stability of the Kurdistan Region, Iraq, and the wider region. This is unacceptable,” Prime Minister Barzani said on X.

Calling in the federal government in Baghdad "to take immediate, decisive, and tangible actions against these outlaw armed groups and militias," he added that "it is incumbent upon the federal government to use all means to thwart these terrorist attacks and bring those responsible to justice."
