Heavy rainfall through the night caused flash floods in Duhok province, killing four people and injuring about 30 others.
One person is still missing, Rudaw’s Nasir Ali reported from Duhok.
The four who were killed are from two families – a father and his son, and a husband and wife.
They were traveling from Bardarash town to Duhok in one taxi. The car they were in was swept up in the flooding near Fahidiya town, east Duhok. The fate of the taxi driver is not immediately known.
The bodies of three of them have been recovered. A search is ongoing for the body of the father.
“Our teams are searching to find the last body… If needed, we will bring more teams to find him,” said Sharqi Sleman, a police official in Duhok.
“What happened last night was a surprise,” Sleman added, saying the province’s meteorological department had not informed them of a weather alert in advance so that they could warn the population.
“Nobody thought it would cause such flash flooding,” he said.
Camps sheltering Yezidis displaced from their homes in the Shingal area were also affected by the flooding.
Yazidi IDP camps in Dohuk area were flooded last night. More than 350,000 Yazidis still live in these camps. They can’t return home because their homeland is not de-mined, their homes are destroyed and they can’t find jobs if they do return. #SaveYazidis pic.twitter.com/Z6Mbjs8hgm

Some 30 people were lightly injured and about 30 vehicles were also damaged.
The following Rudaw photos show people and relatives searching to find the dead bodies of their loved ones who died of last night's flash flooding in Duhok. Of four, the bodies of three have so far been recovered.
