ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - An unidentified drone strike in Sulaimani province’s Raparin administration on Monday injured two people, authorities said, while media affiliated with the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) attributed the attack to Turkey.

The strike targeted Boskeni village in Raparin administration’s Ranya, according to Hiwa Qarani, the head of the administration.

Raparin health spokesperson Taha Mohammed said that “two people were injured in the bombing and were taken to Ranya hospital.”

PKK-affiliated media Rojnews blamed Turkey for the attack, saying the two injured were laborers and that several houses were damaged as a result of the strike.

Turkey is accused of having recently intensified its attacks on alleged PKK targets in Sulaimani province where Ankara believes the group has a growing influence.

A September 18 drone strike on Arbat airport, 27 kilometers southeast of Sulaimani, killed three members of the province’s counter-terrorism force. Ankara did not claim responsibility for the strike, but asserted that members of the Syria-based People’s Protection Units (YPG) were receiving training at the airport, which confirms “the accuracy of the measures” Turkey has taken against Sulaimani.

Turkey is also accused of carrying out deadly drone strikes on busy main roads in the province. Turkey has banned flights from Sulaimani from its airspace since April 3.
