Turkey targets Kurdistan Region’s bordering areas
ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - Turkish defense ministry on Tuesday said it hit a dozen alleged targets of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in the Kurdistan Region’s bordering areas.
The ministry said in a statement that its air forces struck 12 alleged PKK positions on Mount Gara and Mount Qandil, claiming that “numerous” members of the Kurdish group were “neutralized.”
Turkey uses the term "neutralised" to denote adversaries captured, wounded, or killed.
Nahro Abdullah, mayor of Sangasar subdistrict in Sulaimani province, told Rudaw earlier on Tuesday that the vicinity of several villages in the area were bombarded by the Turkish air forces, adding no material damage or casualties had been reported.
The PKK media also reported the attacks without elaborating if they caused any casualties.
Turkey has recently upped its attacks against the PKK in the Kurdistan Region. It has also intensified its targeting of Kurdish fighters in northern Syria due to their alleged ties with the PKK.
The PKK is an armed group that struggles for the increased rights of Kurds in Turkey. It is designated a terrorist organization by Ankara.
A suspected Turkish drone strike in Sulaimani province’s Raparin administration on Monday injured two people.
