ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - A senior official from the Sadiqoon movement said there is no evidence proving that the Kurdistan Region is being used to launch attacks against Iran, despite ongoing accusations amid the escalating war between Iran and the United States and Israel.
Hassan Rubaie, a member of Sadiqoon’s political bureau – the political wing of Asaib Ahl al-Haq led by Qais Khazali – told Rudaw that claims about attacks on Iran originating from the Kurdistan Region remain unconfirmed.
His remarks come as the Kurdistan Region has faced a number of drone and rocket attacks claimed by armed groups identifying themselves as the “Islamic Resistance in Iraq” since the start of the US-Israel military campaign against Iran.
“There are rumors about the territory of the Kurdistan Region being used against Iran, but so far there is no official evidence confirming this matter,” Rubaie said.
He described the regional situation as “sensitive and abnormal,” warning that there are attempts to expand the ongoing conflict across the Middle East.
“This war that Israel and the United States are waging against the Islamic Republic of Iran serves Israel’s interests,” he said, adding that some actors are attempting to draw Iraq into the conflict.
Rubaie also rejected suggestions that Iraqi territory should be used to attack neighboring countries.
