Wooden car becomes center of attention in Rawanduz

RAWANDUZ, Kurdistan Region - A wooden car in Erbil’s province of Rawanduz has become the center of attention due its unique look.

Its exterior is exclusively made out of wood from walnut trees while the mechanical parts of the vehicle are made out of old items that its owner gathered.

Omar Ibrahim is the owner of the car. He was offered large sums of money but decided to keep the car for himself. The value of the vehicle is estimated at around $2,500.

“There were a lot of customers, but I did not give it away. I do not want to sell the car,” Ibrahim told Rudaw’s Bextiyar Qadir on Tuesday.

Andrew Bailey, an American artist and woodcarver that lives in Rawanduz worked on this project and changed the entire theme of the car. He said he was inspired by wooden toy cars.

There is no speedometer or temperature gauge in the wooden car. It has a five-speed automatic transmission and it is considered a four-wheel drive car.
