Kurdish refugee munching through scorpions on way to world record

DUHOK, Kurdistan Region - Hozan, a Syrian Kurdish refugee is trying to set a world record eating snakes and scorpions.

 

“I want to set a world record in Guinness [World Records] and put the Kurds’ name on it,” said Hozan.

 

A young Saudi man, he said, has eaten 22 scorpions in 20 seconds, but Hozan is able to eat 25 scorpions without any problem.

 

A friend of Hozan, Yousif who has been bitten by a scorpion but was not affected by it, is now helping Hozan to reach his dream.

 

“Residents in the camp are really scared of scorpions,” Yousif said. “We have cleared the surrounding areas of the camp, now there are no scorpions around the camp.”

 

“What we want to do is not impossible, we want to make our nation proud by doing that,” he added.

 

Hozan who is now living in Domiz refugee camp in the Kurdistan Region’s province of Duhok warned people not to do what he does.

 

“If someone else eats a scorpion, his blood may clot and he will die. It is too dangerous,” he said.
