26 people arrested in Kirkuk
ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - At least 26 people were arrested over the course of the last 12 days near Kirkuk province, a security official told Rudaw on Tuesday.
“12 of those who are arrested were previously wanted for links to terrorism,” Smko Mohammed, the spokesman of Kirkuk security forces (Asayesh), said in a press conference.
“A band of 8 people were also arrested on the charge of drug trafficking,” Mohammed added.
Mohammad added that another four were arrested for stealing $24,000 and gold from a house.
Two other people were also arrested on charge of spreading violent activities.
Kirkuk's police have already broken up several Islamic State (ISIS) sleeper cells which have carried out terror attacks and abducted civilians.
Kurdish Peshmerga forces and police maintain miles of defensive lines south of Kirkuk and have successfully foiled several ISIS attempts to attack the city.
