Chingyan is a Kurdish village not far from Sulaimani city in the Kurdistan Region. Most houses there are still built in the old style with mud roofs that need to be tended to throughout winter by filling in cracks to keep out rain and snow.
Around 52 homes are in Chingyan nowadays. Many years ago they used to live higher up on the mountainside only to later relocate into the foothills.
There is one elementary and middle school in this village. Its people depend on orchards the grapes, pears and plums they produce.
