Drone crashes near Erbil town
ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - A drone crashed near the Koya district in Erbil province on Thursday, causing no casualties. Officials said the drone's origin remains unclear.
The drone crashed near Tazade village in Taqtaq subdistrict.
“The drone crashed on its own, but it is not yet known where it was directed from, and security forces have begun an investigation,” Aso Mustafa, mayor of Taqtaq, told Rudaw.
Goran Ahmed, General Director of Koya Civil Defense, said the crash caused a fire but it was quickly controlled.
"The drone crash caused no casualties, and the crash site is far from populated areas,” he noted.
The incident comes as the Israel-Iran conflict entered its seventh day. The conflict erupted on Friday after Israeli airstrikes killed several senior Iranian military commanders and nuclear scientists. In response, Iran has launched multiple waves of missile and drone attacks against Israeli targets.
Several other drones have been either downed or crashed in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq in recent days.
