Four workers killed in fall at residential project in Duhok

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - Four construction workers were killed and another critically injured after falling from a height while working on a residential project in Duhok province on Wednesday, according to a local official.

Kivi Bamarni, head of the Construction Workers’ Union in Duhok, told Rudaw that the workers fell together while carrying out work on the project.

“The workers were working on a residential project when they all fell together, and four of them lost their lives,” Bamarni said.

He added that the workers were from Duhok province and had fallen from a lift platform used at the construction site.

Rudaw reporter Naif Ramazan reported from the scene that the workers fell from a height of nearly 50 meters.

The injured worker remains in critical condition and is receiving treatment at Duhok Emergency Hospital, according to the correspondent.

Ramazan said the workers were employed as glass installers and had been working on the project for several days.

The bodies of the four deceased workers were transferred to Duhok’s forensic medicine department. The victims were aged 17-26.

Workplace accidents remain a recurring issue in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, particularly in the construction sector where labor unions and rights groups have repeatedly called for stricter safety measures and enforcement of occupational regulations.
