Coalition airstrikes hammer ISIS near Erbil

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – Coalition airstrikes pounded the Islamic State group (ISIS) on the Gwer front 30 kilometers south of Erbil on Sunday, destroying five armored vehicles and the militants inside, security officials said.

“The airstrikes destroyed five ISIS armored vehicles and the people inside,” said Karim Gharib, a Peshmerga officer.

He added that the attacks also demolished a cement factory in the village of Kanash that the militants had been using as a military base.

The warplanes also targeted the nearby villages of Dwezat and Safina, Gharib said. 

The numbers of ISIS casualties were not immediately known.

Coalition warplanes have been targeting ISIS on the Gwer-Makhmour front, hammering its military bases.
