Following criticism, Kurdish singer launches initiative to plant 1000 trees

ERBIL, Kurdistan - A well-known Kurdish singer, Agreen Dilshad, started a campaign on Tuesday aimed at planting a thousand trees across different cities in the Kurdistan Region following criticism for setting fire to a wooden house in this latest video. 

The first phase of planting 500 trees started from Pirmam Street, Erbil, with 30 young volunteers taking part in the initiative, along with Dilshad and his staff. 

Dilshad launched the campaign in an attempt to brush off some of the criticism he garnered following the release of his music video. 

“It looked like we set fire to a house in the music video. We decided to finally launch this project although it was already planned before my videoclip was released,” Dilshad told Rudaw’s Payam Sarbast on Tuesday.

“Most of what was happening the video was graphics and visual effects,” Dilshad added about the burning house in the video. 

The volunteers were excited to be taking part in the campaign which will continue until February 28, with the next phases set to take place in other cities. 

“They told us through their social media platforms that this event by Agreen Dilshad was going to happen and I was happy to participate as a young volunteer in the city of Erbil,” Ahmad Haji, a young volunteer said.
