Rwanga Foundation's solar project provides 24-hour power to another village

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - The Rwanga Foundation on Wednesday announced that it has provided uninterrupted power to another village in the Kurdistan Region as part of its rapidly expanding Clean Energy Project.

Shiekh Wasman village in Erbil province has become the fourth village that enjoys 24-hour electricity - thanks to Rwanga's project. The organization has provided solar power to 68 residential units as well as the village’s mosque, school, health center and public hall. 

Kamal Osman, 73, from Sheikh Wasan village expressed his joy that his village now has uninterrupted power. 

"Previously [electricity condition] was so bad that one would not desire to return home. It is better not to return to a dark house. I swear this power means everything for us," he told Rudaw. 

As part of the project, the village enjoys an uninterrupted daily supply of 1,237 amperes of electricity.

Khidir Hamadamin, another resident of the village, said they had suffered from frequent power interruptions, but the issue has not been fully resolved. 

"We have two patients who are victims of chemical weapons… and need continuous oxygen, so electricity was very necessary for us," said Gulnas Sulaiman, another resident of the village. 

Idris Nechirvan Barzani, President and Founder of Rwanga Foundation, participated in the completion ceremony on Wednesday.

Hassan Shekh Aladin, Executive Director of Rwanga Foundation, said that many families from the village have returned home after learning that the electricity crisis had been resolved.

"Since the start of this project by the Rwanga Foundation, several families from the beneficiary villages have returned to their homes. This shows that it is possible to stabilize village life by providing essential service projects, ensuring a safe environment for the people of Kurdistan, and protecting food security," he told Rudaw. 

During seven months this year, within the framework of Rwanga Foundation's Clean Energy Project, 3,117 amperes of electricity have been provided to 183 households in four villages in the Kurdistan Region.
