ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - The second floor of a building under construction collapsed in Kirkuk on Monday, killing one worker and injuring six others. The fate of seven more remains unknown, as they are believed to be trapped beneath the debris, eyewitnesses told Rudaw.

The incident occurred in the city’s Wahda neighborhood.

Security forces and civil defense teams have arrived at the scene and are continuing search and rescue operations for the missing workers.

Amir Noori, spokesperson for the Kirkuk police, confirmed the casualty figures to Rudaw.

“Police and civil defense teams are on site and are searching for those trapped under the rubble. We have six injured and one fatality,” Noori said.

He added that authorities have not yet been able to contact the building’s owner to determine the total number of workers present at the site.

Monday’s incident comes a day after a deadly traffic accident in Kirkuk, in which six people were killed and 12 others injured when a cement truck collided with multiple vehicles at the city’s entrance on the main road linking Kirkuk to Sulaimani.
