Twenty five Kurdish Zeravani security forces successfully underwent a two week training program by Italian military in the Kurdistan Region designed to repel fierce confrontations, surprise attacks, control protests and protect diplomatic missions from any possible threats.

"The benefit of this training as Peshmerga and officers and guards of the consulates is to protect institutions, political figures and the VIPs," said Muhanned Mohammed, a Zeravani officer who received the training.

Younis Mohammed, Zeravani Training officer said "the training was comprised of four courses such as: storming, first aid, preventing violence during protests and crowd control as well as combating terror and VIP training."

Zeravani, a militarized police force under the KRG interior ministry, are commonly called Zeravani Peshmerga.

Over the past three years, the US-led coalition has trained 15,000 Peshmerga soldiers.

Peshmerga have received training from seven countries including Italy, Germany, France, Canada, Holland, Czech Republic and US.

"I benefited very well from this program. We are thanking them," said Regir Musa, a Zeravani fighter who also received the training.

There are more than 30 foreign missions in the Kurdish capital including from the United States, France, and Germany.
