ERBIL, Kurdistan Region — Rudaw Media Network released a gratitude message to all leaders, political parties, media agencies and the people of Kurdistan who mourned the death of Shifa Gardi and shared their sadness with the family, friends and her colleagues at Rudaw Media Network.
Rudaw reporter and anchor Shifa Gardi was killed on Saturday afternoon while reporting on the heavy clashes between advancing Iraqi forces and ISIS militants by a planted bomb near Mosul, and her cameraman Younis Mustafa was injured in the same attack.
The following is Rudaw’s statement of gratitude:
Following the announcement of the martyrdom of our beloved colleague Shifa Gardi in Mosul city on the evening of February 25th, a large number of condolence messages were sent to Rudaw Media Network and the family of martyred Shifa Gardi, with thousands of people attending her funeral.
In the name of Rudaw Media Network, we are extending our gratitude to the following dears: the president and the deputy president of Iraq; the president of the Kurdistan Region; the deputy speaker of the Iraqi Parliament; the speaker and the deputy speaker of the Kurdistan Parliament; the prime minister of Iraq; the prime minister and the deputy prime minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG); the Defense Ministry of Iraq; the Peshmerga Ministry; the advisor of the Kurdistan Region Security Council (KRSC); the US President’s Special Envoy to the counter-ISIS coalition; the ambassadors and councils of countries in Baghdad and Erbil; the presidents, secretaries and leaders of Kurdistan and Iraqi political parties; Kurdistan and Iraqi parliament’s factions; KRG's relations department and its foreign representatives; and governors and provincial councils of the Kurdistan Region.
We also thank the world news agencies, media agencies, Arabic and Kurdish television, Kurdistan, Iraqi and world journalism organizations. We also extend our gratitude to all the journalists and intellectuals who were with us. We thank all those who shared their feelings to us through messages in the social media and websites.
We thank the beloved people across all parts of Kurdistan and abroad who turned Shifa Gardi’s martyrdom into a public mourning in Kurdistan through their loyalty and feelings.
In return for all the respect, loyalty and sadness of all thousands of people who shed tears for the martyred Shifa Gardi quietly in their houses, Shifa Gardi’s colleagues in Rudaw Media Network pledge to further continue work to what Shifa Gardi was loyally doing at Rudaw to develop Rudaw Media Network and maintain its professionalism in covering the events and sending information.
